Live Jazz Inspires Art Students
September 16, 2008
Mrs.
Beil's eighth grade art class had some special inspiration while
they worked: live jazz music performed by Headmaster King! The
students are currently painting in the style of mural painter
Aaron Douglas, who was known for his stylized, two-dimensional
illustrations and use of flat colors. Mr. Douglas' work was
greatly influenced by jazz music, and Mr. King's saxophone
performance of John Coltrane and Charlie Parker music helped set
the tone for the lesson.
