PA Governor's Schools of Excellence
The applications for the Pennsylvania Governor’s School are now available and can be downloaded directly from the web site – www.pgse.org. Applicants must be residents of Pennsylvania and must commit to being in residence for the full thirty-five day program without absences. These are full scholarship programs for highly motivated students with excellent grades who want an intense experience; those students who have exceptional talent in a particular field in the arts should apply, no matter what their grades are, since acceptance is based strictly on talent, not grades.

The deadlines are listed on the application forms, but students should complete everything at least one week before the deadline so that we avoid last minute crises and worries about snow storms. Teacher Recommendation Forms and Counselor Recommendation Forms should be distributed by the students at least three weeks prior to the deadlines. If you have specific questions, please contact Miss Albarelli (malbarelli@moravianacademy.org).

Agricultural Sciences – February 5 (accepts 10th and 11th graders)

Arts – must be delivered to the student’s Intermediate Unit by January 5 (accepts 10th
                       and 11th graders)

Global Entrepreneurship – February 5 (accepts 10th and 11th graders)

Health Care – February 5 (accepts 11th graders)

Information, Society and Technology – February 5 (accepts 11th graders)

International Studies – January 8 (accepts 11th graders)

            Sciences – January 8 (accepts 11th graders)

            Teaching – January 8 (accepts 10th and 11th graders)

Juniors who are residents of New Jersey can apply to the New Jersey Governor’s Schools, but they must check on their web site for applications and deadlines. They are different from those for PA Governor’s Schools and the deadlines are much earlier. Details are available at http://www.state.nj.us/govschool

Summer Programs Abroad
The Foreign Language Department is hosting an information program on summer international immersion programs on Wednesday, January 21 at 7:00 pm in the Walter Hall Dining Room. Amerispan, a program that many of our students have participated in, will give a formal presentation on their wide array of summer programs. Dr. Richard Pyrczak will present information on Familles Partenaires, a linguistic and cultural exchange in Toulouse, France. Also, there will be information on summer Rotary International Youth Exchange Programs.

Moravian Academy is fully committed to immersion programs that have a lifelong impact on students’ lives. We will provide lists of past participants so that parents and students can contact them and have informal conversations. We are recommending these programs because of their excellent organization, reasonable costs and responses from our student body. If you have questions, please contact any member of the foreign language department.
